女多男少一直是美國高教惱人的問題, 最近幾年又變得更嚴重。2020 到 2021 學年度, 有59.5% 大學生是女性, 男生只有40.5%, 足足差了將近二十個百分點。其中又以低收入家庭的白人男性最不願意上大學, 他們比低收入家庭的黑人和西語裔男生更沒意願念書。例如德州的貝勒大學男生只占四成, 這還是校方刻意壓低男生錄取標準的結果, 男生比女生的錄取率高了 7%。然後男大學生又比女大學生容易輟學。不出幾年, 美國會出現每兩個女性大學畢業生只有一個男性畢業生。
當然很多人會說, 為什麼一定要念大學? 那張畢業證書不是必要。的確, 美國有一堆不錯的工作不要求大學學歷, 一樣可以晉升中產階級。例如很多跟房屋相關的工作 (仲介, 貸放款, 房屋裝修等等), 以及不少男生最愛的警察和軍人工作。但一般來說, 沒有學歷的人收入就是明顯低很多, 一輩子都難翻身。
此外, 離家上大學是很多鄉下人離開同溫層的第一個機會, 也可能是他們此生唯一的機會。進入大學, 他們才有可能遇見來自四面八方, 背景不同 思想不同的人, 並學到獨立思考和批判性思考的能力。缺乏這些能力, 他們只能等著被政客耍弄欺騙。
是否支持川普和保守派的一大關鍵就是大學學歷。投票給川普的人數隨著學歷上升而遞減。2016 和 2020 兩次總統大選中, 過半的女性投給了進步派, 而過半的男性投票給保守派。學歷不足而憤世嫉俗的白人男性正是保守派最容易拉攏的一群人。

Mako visits a popular Iekei ramen shop that opened last year for the first time! I visited "Samukawa Sohonten" in Samukawa-cho, Koza-gun, Kanagawa. Approximately 1.4km from Samukawa Station, the store has its own parking lot. Opened in July 2020, it is a popular local ramen shop where customers can enter without interruption whenever they visit. It has a good reputation for the deliciousness of char siu, and the popular char siu men are often sold out. If you are interested, we recommend you to come to the store as soon as possible. 1 year ago today, I went on a semester long exchange to study at Korea's Sungkyunkwan University #성균관대학교 for Fall 2020. 🇰🇷It was truly an exchange journey that really changed my life. I still can't help to think back to all of the amazing people that I met on this exchange, all of the awesome adventures exploring Korea, making the best out of every day in the 5 months that I was there for. That's why I selected A to Z of my favourite memories from August to January to show you guys why going on exchange can be so life-changing and it is definitely the best decision that I have made!
